“This crisis is so imminent and so difficult that I think we have to allow the so-called Bush tax cuts all to expire.”
He disagreed with conservatives who said tax cuts essentially pay for themselves by causing more economic activity. “They do not,” Mr. Greenspan said.

This is really discouraging to hear. A testament to Obama’s insincerity about dealing with the budget and to Washington’s pathetically partisan state. Brooks goes on to paint a bleak picture of deficit reform’s chances.
