“Cheering supporters? Check. Election returns on the projection screen? Check. Andrea Mitchell and Candy Crowley doing stand-ups? Check and check. In fact, the only piece missing from Hillary Clinton’s Florida victory party here Tuesday night was a victory. Yes, Clinton, as expected, beat Barack Obama by a wide margin in the Florida primary. But all the Democratic candidates had agreed months ago to boycott the contest after the Democratic National Committee stripped Florida of its delegates to punish the state for moving up its primary date. The result was a primary without purpose, a show about nothing. But in a political stunt worthy of the late Evel Knievel, the Clinton campaign decided to put on an ersatz victory party that, it hoped, would erase memories of Obama’s actual victory Saturday night in South Carolina’s Democratic primary.” —Dana Milbank - Much Ado About Not Much - washingtonpost.com

Zuckerberg: Next Steps

In an interview Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, did with Richard Scoble, he mentions some interesting points on the next steps for Facebook:

  1. “a major overhaul of the application platform. Both to make apps less spammy and also to deliver much more functionality so more apps move beyond the viral, but pretty low feature, styles of apps”
  2. “They are still thinking about data portability and just how that will work to both protect users as well as to encourage new kinds of applications to be built.”
Both good moves, good for the social web, and good for developers who create quality social apps.

“OVER the years, I’ve been deeply moved by the people who’ve told me they wished they could feel inspired and hopeful about America the way people did when my father [JFK] was president. This sense is even more profound today. That is why I am supporting a presidential candidate in the Democratic primaries, Barack Obama.” —Caroline Kennedy, A President Like My Father - New York Times

“If Bill Clinton has to trash his legacy to protect his legacy, so be it. If he has to put a dagger through the heart of hope to give Hillary hope, so be it. If he has to preside in this state as the former first black president stopping the would-be first black president, so be it. The Clintons … always go where they need to go, no matter the collateral damage. Even if the damage is to themselves and their party.” —Two Against One - New York Times

The Clintons and History - NYT: Caucus Blog → thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com

The big Dem. Presidential story in the past week has been the race issue. This blog lays out the implications well: will the Clintons, in their lust for the White House, lay waste to many of their supposed ideals and the party they helped build up?

I hope not. My hope is that this issue has been more of a product of media hype than anything. We’ll see what happens …
